Demands Surge in Patriotic Fervour

Our phone has been ringing nonstop since the beginning of the week, and email orders are coming in at a rapid pace. What is the sudden flurry of activity? It is an unprecedented demand for St George & Union Flags.

The most obvious reason is current events highlighted in the news and on social media. Patriotism should be a matter of personal choice. Britain is a country of free speech, and as such, the great British public is making its voice heard symbolically.

We, as flagmakers, may be doing great business from the sudden increase in British flag sales, but more to the point, it is the pride and the unbowed stoicism of the people of Britain that shines through.

Invictus: William Ernest Henley

Invictus is a Latin word meaning “unconquered” or “undefeated.”

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

      For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.
